Could it be just hype that Singapore is home to really good food?

Lifestyle August 13

Many say Yes to the fact that out of the 20000 food stalls here, 7 out of 10 of them sell food that leaves much to be desired. To me its no coincidence that Singapore has such good food, in a hard working society like Singapore, good food is generally desired, thus chefs and hawkers strive for the best and hone their skills to we our hungry appetites.
Have you ever tried the hawker food here in Singapore? although people complain that its dirty, oily and so on... i doubt these people have ever been to a hawker centre before, they hide in air conditioned food courts and posh restaraunts. If they really tried the Singapore hawker food they would have second thoughts of saying the same thing again.

I personally feel that the food standard in Singapore has dropped significantly. This may be because of the countless hawker centres and food courts. Most of these hawkers/stall holders are there just to make money, they don't really care whether or not customers ae satisfied with their food.

i feel that only a handful of hawkers do care about whether the customers are happy with the food. however if singapore wants to have a reputation of a home to really good food, they should first change the mentalilty of only wanting to make money.

I agree that Singapore's hawker food cannot be compared with those of other countries like Malaysia and Hong Kong. Think of Penang and Ipoh and you would get the picture

I think this boils down to the individual and his taste buds. Something palatable to one may be dsigusting to another.

However, I can safely say that Singapore does have a few significant dishes to be proud of and the variety of our local fare is not too bad either.
